Welcome to Disney Classics
Welcome to Disney Classics –the blockbuster full-length animated films in storybook form for Disney and Disney/Pixar lovers. These are particularly special for me to read aloud and share. So many of them are ones I remember growing up. In fact, The Sword in the Stone is the first movie I ever saw in a movie theatre. Some of you grandparents might remember those days back when the marquee dazzled with oversized posters of animated characters and enchanting promotional design.
Back in those days there was no cable television, digital downloads or even internet. High definition Blue-Rays, DVDs, even VHS and Beta video tapes were off in a distant future. So Disney classics like Cinderella, Snow White, Pinocchio and The Jungle Book would be re-released to theaters. That is how I remember seeing many of these beloved, vintage films.
In this Welcome to Disney Classics page, I am primarily sharing the condensed and altered storybook versions of these films. In the near future, I will include read alouds of the extended Disney Classic Series of books. That’s the Disney Classic version of Alice in Wonderland picture on the left. The Disney storybooks in this series include more of the story and more animated photos in oversize books.
I can tell you these make great birthday gifts. When your child or grandchild tears off the wrapping and opens it up, they get excited. They often don’t want to wait until bedtime to hop up on your lap and ask you to read it. These are such powerful, rich and healthy bonding experiences if you can be there to give them in person. Even if you can’t, they are fantastic gifts that stimulates the desire to learn to read.
Alice in Wonderland will be one of the first ones I create (the condensed Little Golden Book version can be read and watched HERE).
