]]> These are puppy videos of our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy Kyoto since the day we brought her home at 11 weeks.

First thing we did when we arrived was introduce her to the back yard to immediately begin house training and cultivating a comfort and love for this area. Later we brought her into the house to introduce her to kennel and, again, seek to cultivate a level of comfort and positive attachment. Of course most of the time was more simply enjoying this first day with our new puppy and taking puppy videos and photos.

These puppy videos include a variety of clips including her eating (on my lap!) and playing fetch. They also include us playing keep away from here (which she loved), her playing keep away from us (which we didn’t love). Others include Kyoto enjoying her chewy toys and, of course, sleeping.

There are no shortages of puppy videos online these days. That said, I’m not altogether sure how many are being created by folks who, in their upper 60s, are courageous (other adjectives might apply) enough to adopt a new puppy. Half the fun of watching — and even creating — these puppy videos is laughing at the boundless, untamed energy of this young pup and our efforts to appropriately contain and direct it. Our ability to keep up is, well, laughable.

At the same time, we purchased this breed for her compatibility to our life situation. We had to put down our beloved cocker spaniel of 14 plus years late last summer. She had been such a longtime sweet companion and source of joy. I particularly missed having a lapdog.

And when I stooped down to greet her and give her a little TLC, she cuddled up into my lap for reassurance. If I wasn't smitten before, I was now!

]]> Watch as our new Cavalier King Charles Spaniel arrived at her new home the day after Christmas (2022) and discovered her new playground.

Kyoto, the name of our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, is 11 weeks old and these are her first moments acclimating to the back yard. It is not big but it is has grass, room to run and it is all hers. No more competition with brothers and sisters for play space.

At first she was understandably a little tentative to her new surroundings. She had just been picked up an hour earlier from her original home. But it wasn’t long before her happy, playful disposition and natural puppy curiosity took over. She enjoyed discovering the old peach tree and the line of agapanthus bordering the back lawn.

But it was clear from the get go her greatest joy was being with her new owners, which is characteristic of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. When Jeanette came back out from the house after only a couple minutes away, our new puppy sprung to life, jumping up and down and racing to her. Meanwhile, as I walked back and forth filming her, she followed me step for step wherever I went. The American Kennel Club notes another defining characteristic of Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is attachment to family. It is one of the reasons we chose this breed. We are both in our 60s and all the kids have long since left the nest. So the adventure of raising a new puppy who loved being close appealed to us. By evening, new puppy was clearly happy and content dozing beside Jeanette on the couch. Only question is who enjoyed it more. Kyoto or us!

I created Chaz Stories for my kids and grandkids to read them fun bedtime stories to end their day on a happy tone. These stories are all positive, hopeful, fun, encouraging, adventurous and celebrate kindness, respect, friendship and love. Puppy videos are all that and more. For this grandpa, bedtime stories should foster happy feelings to sleep by. The kinds of stories that set up a happy ending to the day varies by age. My older grandkids love adventure and suspense stories with happy endings. The Boxcar Children, for example, remains an absolute favorite in our family. Of course fantasy and magic always work regardless of age. The imagination of children is a precious resource. I like books — and choose them to read aloud — that inspire that imagination. Pixar Stories such as Cars and Finding Nemo combine adventure, fantasy, suspense and fun.

Chaz Stories is home for free audio books and video books to delight children of all ages. These include Disney stories and beloved Little Golden Book storybooks. There are timeless classics such as The Happy Hollisters, Stuart Little, Charlotte’s Web and others. Our weekly line-up includes Mickey Mouse & Friends Mondays and Muppets/Sesame Street Tuesdays. Every Wednesday is Winnie’sDay Winnie the Pooh day. Then there are Throwback Thursdays and Pixar Fridays. Additionally, Saturdays we share favorite non-Disney animated stories.
